Description
The two custom-built wall sconces offered are reproduction gunning lights that are perfect for any game room. The two in the photos are the ACTUAL ones you will receive. I built a set of these for my personal use, and they turned out so well I decided to make a few more to sell. They measure approximately 11 inches wide, 8.5 inches deep, and 9.5 inches tall. They come complete with the custom electric oil lamps. You can't buy reproduction oil lamps of this size in an electric variety, so I do some customization to convert small oil lamps so that they are size appropriate. I also fitted them with flicker bulbs, but those can easily be changed to any bulb that uses a candelabra base!
These lights look excellent both hung from a simple metal hook or set directly on the mantle.  Condition is "new", using old materials. They are intentionally imperfectly perfect to better replicate the real thing. I used all old materials, except the modern electric lamps/bulbs and glass, including reclaimed lumber.
Some of the materials used include zinc mason jar lid exhaust port covers, small polished tart pans for reflectors, antique yarn spool handles, leather strapping, vintage metal hardware and hinges, new glass, and reclaimed oak from an early 1920-40's tiger oak chest of drawers that was too far gone to refinish/repurpose.
***Note- If you would like a set, but in a different color or style, just ask. I can make them out of anything from walnut and oak to a variety of barnwoods and other reclaimed lumbers. I also converted a previous set for an eBay buyer so that they would run off of a 3v battery, instead of standard 120.
Information
Gunning lights were used by market hunters years ago to aid them in hunting ducks at night. While market hunting for ducks, the practice of hunters taking large amounts of game to sell to market, ended years ago, these lights are a historic remembrance of the practice. Original lights are very hard to find, and also very collectible. Heck, even well-made reproductions often sell in excess of 0 for one light. The lights in this auction are basically half-scale of the originals. Shipping costs, for lack of a better term, stink. Over the last few years the cost to ship items has more than quadrupled in some cases, and I am constantly looking for ways to decrease shipping costs, especially on large items, to make it more affordable for everyone. While I haven't found that magic Amazon discount code that allows me to ship a bag of marbles in a 24-inch square box for .00, I have worked to keep the shipping costs as low as possible. If the shipping costs seem high, please ask. I will see what I can do. I custom make most of boxes to keep the packages small, but won't risk damage during shipping to save .00.
