Description
Up for auction is a beautiful Bufflehead drake decoy made by the nationally recognized maker Len Carnaghi of Washington, Michigan, signed and dated 2013. Carnaghi began carving in the late '60's under the tutelage of noted maker Nick Purdo. His work has won over 100 "Professional Class" blue ribbons and three Best-in-Shows. He was the Top Amateur Winner at the 1972 World Wildfowl Carving Championships. He is featured in Loy Harrell's "Decoys: Sixty Living and Outstanding North American Decoy Carvers." The decoy is good original condition and has a weighted wood keel. The body employs hard foam with a wood base and head. The paint exhibits a heavy stippling, unusual for Carnaghi’s decoys. It has slightly raised wings, deeply carved feathers on the sides and the head is turned to the right. It was obviously made especially for and gifted to a personal friend and has an inscription on the bottom that reads” Warmest Personal Regards, New Stiple Style, Len Carnaghi, Jan – 2013.” The bottom also carries the maker’s “LC” brand. There is a tight age check on the back. This beautiful carving measures 12-1/2" long; 5-3/4" wide; and 5-1/4" tall not including the keel. Please ask questions or for more pictures. Shipping includes insurance and is higher outside of the USA. Thanks for looking.
