    Description

Civil War Era M1840 Wrist-breaker Sword Saber with Scabbard.   Sword measures 41" overall with a double fullered blade length of 35-3/4".  Blade retains much original silver finish with some scattered gray patina wear, use.  The blade edge shows some tiny nicks on the blade edge. Blade marked, "W. WALSCHEIL SOLINGEN".  Maker was in Prussia and made swords for export.  These were used in the U.S. Civil War, possibly Confederate. Tight handle with leather wrap and brass wire. 3 branch brass basket.  The scabbard shows dents and rust, brown patina, top of throat shows a crack, 7/8" long.  An interesting piece.   See photos for further details, clarification, and condition.
